Me and my wife are coming to France 2nd week in august for 6 days, we arrive in Dunkirk at 4pm and we are thinking of heading (by car) somewhere on the north coast (perhaps somewhere like Carnac in Brittany, but this is a little more driving than would like to do), we intend to camp......
We have no idea where the best destination for a base would be as as it is our first trip to northern France. We would like to minimize travel as much as possible but would like to stay near the coast, we like to do the following activities on holiday
Hike (coastal walks especially)
Eat out
Visit Vineyards
Visit places of historic intrest (not necessarily WW2 sites)
If you have any suitable suggestions we would love to hear them....
Thanks for reading this post :)

I hour 15 minutes from calais you could be on the Somme Bay. A lovely, hidden, unspoilt part of France. Worth considering. In particularly the lovely medieval fishing town of St Valery sur Somme - sea, wide open space, pretty towns...
You could always go further to Calvados. We stopped for a morning at the lovely seaside town of St Aubin sur Mer, and have always wanted to go back. You%26#39;ve also got all the landing beaches around there. St Aubin is pretty and a sort of how you imagine a quiet, traditional seasise town of yesteryears.
I do love the Somme Bay, however, after years of travelling to Northern France it is quite special.
Brittany is course lovely, but it%26#39;s that much further. The coastal road between Cancale and St Malo is lovely. Have you ever been west of St Malo? Some outstanding places there, such as St Jacut de la Mer and St Cast, and then inland the exceptionally beautiful medieval town of Dinan.
Between the Somme and Caen there are places like Deauville and Trouville, but they are really overcrowded and full of traffic. The real star here there thogh is the beautiful town of Honfleur. Honfleur is worth a journey in itself. Exceptionally lovely.
