Transfer from Nice Airport - Nice Old Town

I arrive into Nice Airport on Sunday 30th August at 23:00 hrs from Barcelona. What is my best option in transferring to my hotel? Is public transport still available at that time of night?

The last bus 98 leaves terminal 2 at 23.37 and terminal 1 at 23.50. [it goes by the main bus station but continues to the train station on requerst]

When you are talking of %26#39;chez%26#39; someone, do you pronounce the %26#39;z%26#39; if the name begins with a vowel? Eg, Chez Omar? Never do know what to do with that one!

While waiting on French speakers to reply, you can go to www.acapela-group.com, click on the demo and then select a language. Type the word in and you can pick from both female and male speakers who will pronounce one word or a sentence for you. Alice and Bruno are but two of the French speakers who pronounce the words for you.

The rule is that when two vowels follow each other (one at the end of a word, the other at the beginning of the next word) or when a word ending with a %26quot;mute%26quot; consonant (a consonant that is not pronounced) is followed by a word starting with a vowel, you %26quot;link%26quot; the two words.

This explains that you pronounce the %26quot;z%26quot; in %26quot;chez eux%26quot; or %26quot;chez elle%26quot;, %26quot;z%26quot; being generally a mute consonant (except in gaz and jazz) but does not explain why you would not pronounce it in %26quot;chez Omar%26quot;. The only explanation I can come up with is that it would sound funny.

It seems it is mainly a question of %26quot;euphonism%26quot; just as %26quot;la chose que l%26#39;on a dite%26quot; sounds better than %26quot;la chose qu%26#39;on a dite%26quot;.

Getting to Disneyland from Paris 17th District

My son and I will be arriving in Paris on 26 Sept and will be staying 2 nights there. Then on 28 Sept we are going to Disneyland/Marne-de-Vallee and stay there for 2 nights at the Dream Castle hotel. What is the best transportation to take from Paris? I understand that the RER is good but with our luggage and all is it still advisable? Does anyoen know if buses are available and what are the rates?

Sidetrips

We will be staying in Carcassonne for two days, and will have a car.

What all do you see in Carcassonne.

Are there any sidetrips.

We were thinking of driving one day to Figures and back to see Dali%26#39;s home. I think it is one hour each way,is that correct. Is it worth the trip, or is there something better to see?

No. It is 170 km and you%26#39;ll need approx 2 hours especially in this season where there is a lot of traffic at the border. ViaMichelin says 1 h 43 mn and they are usually optimistic.

IMO the Dali Museum in Figueras is worth the trip but it depends on how much you like Dali ...... :-)

If you%26#39;re thinking about Cadaques, you%26#39;ll need an extra hour just to get there. It is not so much the distance but the road is winding and Cadaques is very crowded in summer.

That is a lot farther than I thought. Is there enough to do in Carcassonne for two days? Are there any other interesting side trips?

You seldom have to stop at the border for police or customs controls.

What is more likely to hold you up is very slow traffic during the summer months. There was an article in today%26#39;s local paper : yesterday there were 4,000 cars per hour between Narbonne and the border and as many from the border to Narbonne.

You don%26#39;t say when you%26#39;ll be in Carcassonne. September should be OK but the last two week-ends in August will probably be pretty bad.

From Carcassonne you could drive to Limoux, Quillan and Saint-Paul de Fenouillet and visit some cathar castles : La Pradelle Puilaurens, Queribus and Peyrepertuse.

Below are places that we are planning on visiting this fall on a trip to the area. I haven%26#39;t been to them but have done reading and gotten recommendations from friend who have visited the area. We will be visiting Carcassonne also but staying in Couiza.

Check out Rennes le Chateau (near Couiza) and Limoux - They are not far from Carcassonne ( access via D118) and both together migh make for a pleasant day. Rennes de Chateau has a web-site but I don%26#39;t have it any more -try typing in the name.

On the Eastern side you might consider Narbonne, Abbe Font Froide area - Fort de Salses also seems interesting - south of Narbonne. These are all near the autoroutes (A 61, A9)

We%26#39;ve stayed in the area a couple of times and the best day out was the one Pvoyageuse mentions - via Quillan to Queribus (we%26#39;d intended to go to Peyrepertuse as well, but ran out of time, unfortunately).

Another good trip was heading north over a scenic route via Castres to Albi, to visit the Cathedral and the Toulouse-Lautrec museum. http://www.albi-tourisme.fr/us/

Carcassonne, both the cité and the new town, were worth some time too, particularly the guided tour along the ramparts.

There are many many posts discussing reserved shuttle services if you will type %26quot;cdg shuttle%26quot; into the forum search. You could also take a taxi for roughly 48-55€.. Or the Air France coach to Etoile (Arc de T) then hoof it down the Champs about 600-700m to the hotel.

Hello, I%26#39;ve been stalking this forum for a couple of months now and I want to say thank you for all the fabulous tips I have got. We go to Paris in 2 weeks (for my birthday!!) and I think I have everything planned now, but I was just wondering if anyone has stayed at the Hotel Design De La Sorbonne in the Latin Quarter as this is where we are booked into for 2 nights.

Reviews seem pretty good but i%26#39;m not sure how reliable they are...

- they%26#39;re as reliable as what anybody is going to post here, since 90% of the time it%26#39;s the same people writing reviews as are posting.

- the hotel has been renovating in the past year or two, so should be in a %26#39;fresh%26#39; state

- very central location, no problem there

The Movie "Paris Story"

Has anyone seen this movie %26quot;Paris Story%26quot; next the Opera Garnier? Is it worth a couple of hours or so?

I%26#39;ve seen the movie, and thoroughly enjoyed it (probably more because it was set in Paris than because of the story, which was quite sad and at times unusual).

If you had two days in Paris and wondered whether you should see it while you were there, I%26#39;d probably say don%26#39;t bother. If you are asking if you should see it before you go, and you know Paris and enjoy hearing the French language, and you%26#39;ve got a spare couple of hours, then probably.

If you%26#39;ve never been to Paris, I%26#39;d say leave it until you get back. You%26#39;ll probably enjoy it more.

My 2 cents/centimes worth. :-)

Paris Story is a multimedia presentation shown in a small theater. There%26#39;s film footage, video, stills, of the history of Paris/France and Paris museums, monuments, scenery, on a panoramic screen with magnificent music. Head phones are provided, so you can listen in English. It lasts just under an hour.

In the lobby, there are plasma screens on which you can view scenes of Paris in 3D (awesome).

All is terrific for an overview of Paris, so it%26#39;s probably best to do this early in your trip - though, not arrival day, as you may be lulled to sleep!

I enjoyed it, even though I couldn%26#39;t always decide if it was a little cheesy or romantic or what... but it was an excellent reminder of what brought Paris to be the %26#39;idea%26#39; that it is today, as much as the city that it is. You may know a lot of the history, people and events that created Paris but you%26#39;ll be amazed at what you had forgotten. It is a very good way to reset your mindset that Paris is so much more than just a checklist of buildings.

My daughter and I were disappointed. The production values were like a movie they would show in high school or at a park or somewhere -- still shots of paintings of historic figures, lots of bombastic voiceover and music -- no cinematography or live-action film. We thought it was a waste of time and money. In all honesty, we went the first day we were in Paris one time -- jetlagged -- and both of us dropped off to sleep before the credits. We saw enough to get the general gist but it did not compare to going to a movie ... anyway, if you are going, do not go when you are sleepy!

I went to this years ago when it was called %26quot;Paristoric%26quot; I believe. I know for sure it wasn%26#39;t called Paris Story. Wore headset for English. Again, years ago. I had a coupon from my hotel. From what I remember it was interesting but who knows if it%26#39;s the same today.

This is the same presentation as %26quot;Paristoric%26quot;.

We saw it years ago and again year before last. If there were changes, we didn%26#39;t notice. It was very well done!

Obviously, we enjoyed it sufficiently for a second viewing!

Paristoric: I saw it about 3 years ago. Cheesey? Definitely! A bit too many still shots and not enough moving shots? Ditto! However... the historical overview is very good and gives the viewer an idea of how Paris has evolved. It%26#39;s sort of like those %26quot;cheater booklets%26quot; (can%26#39;t remember the name!) for long tomes that you should read, but decide, instead, to go for the simplified/summarized version. In the end, I thoroughly enjoyed watching the film - it%26#39;s only an hour! - and being reminded of the richness of Parisien history.
