Limoges in December

Looking for a prechristmas break for a few days and see flights to Limoges and know not what it might offer in December. We usually like to visit a Christmas Market at this time. Are there any we can get to by train or other public transport and if not is there enough to see over say 3 days close to Limoges. Any assistance appreciated.

There is a christmas market in Limoges on place de la motte in the weeks leading up to Christmas....but its not on par with anything you will find in Alsace.

I hope this doesn%26#39;t sound too cheeky, but can I ask you why you decided to choose Limoges as a destination? And do you have other options from your airport?

It was a cheap flight option and I now realise that it may not be best placed for visiting at this time of year.

maybe, but you will find you will have more of a real french experience as the town won%26#39;t be invaded by tourists. The weather can be quite festive too, so make sure you have your scarves and gloves!

I can%26#39;t speak for Limoges itself, but here in La Rochelle we have a very small christmas market each year, just enough to get you into the christmas mood, and all the shops stay open on sundays, and town is very busy with christmas shoppers.

I think you can expect much more in Limoges, but my guess is you should treat it as a city break, find out what%26#39;s on from the tourist office (maybe go see a concert )and enjoy the local cuisine.

I thnk there is plenty in Limoges to keep someone occupied for a weekend break. It has some very attractive old shopping streets, a lively market and several high class museums including the National Ceramics Museum. For a day out by train, bearing in mind the hours of daylight in December, you could consider Eymoutiers. It might well be quite chilly at that time of year.

You can get the train to Ambazac

Pretty little town and only 15 minutes away

I can not believe the person from La Rochelle, the Limousin and Limoges itself can offer a host of things to do, and most of a very high standard. there are lots of markets around Christmas, and I would sugest looking at the local tourist office web sites to find out the dates of each of them, and yes the weather is seasonal, but surly is that not what Christmas is all about. I also know a fabulous place to stay if you have not sorted that out yet.

Regards,

Skye
