Hi All
We%26#39;re spending 3 days in Nice at the end of this month...can%26#39;t wait. I%26#39;ve read that taxi fare from airport into Nice is v expensive so we%26#39;re planning to get the no 98 bus as advised...however..has anyone any idea on taxi fares within Nice...we%26#39;re staying about a 20 min walk from old Nice (about a 10 min taxi ride due to one way system ..boulevard victor hugo) and will be wanting to get taxis back to the hotel..are fares pretty reasonable? Thanks Laura

No, they are not - recently, a couple of friends paid 16 and 18 euros respectively for a very short trip from the train station to their hotels.
There often isn%26#39;t a taxi waiting at the taxi ranks which means a phone call to summon one, although they are v quick to arrive. They can%26#39;t be flagged down in the street.
For Victor Huge, I think the 99 might drop you closer than the 98 or even the 23 from termial 1. Where exactly are you staying and what time do you arrive?
You could take the tram from the bus station for a coupe of stops, that would get you closer to V Hugo and you use the same ticket that you bought for the 98.

Hi ...thanks for v useful advice.. we%26#39;re staying at the Villa Victoria (near rue congress!?? junction)and i think we arrive at the airport about 5pm ish so quite a good time. We%26#39;re planning to mooch around the old town all 3 nights so was just thinking in terms of getting back to hotel at midnight (ish)...either a long (ish) walk or a pricey fare it seems!!Laura

Hi Laura
You will be fine walking back from the Old Town at night.

I think the 98 to bustop congres/promenade is a shade closer than the 99 to the train station -there is n%26#39;t much in it but the 99 takes a quicker route
Its not a long walk - 20 mins or less - plus you can take a tram untill about 2am .
Tram stop closest to the hotels is Jean medecin -tram costs 1 euro Tram stops by the old town at Opera/veille ville and Cathedral /Veille ville [this latter one is also the closests tram stop to the main bus station.]
Nice is very safe to walk about at night but the usual precautions you would take at home apply: don%26#39;t flash money around, don%26#39;t use cash machines late at night, don%26#39;t get visibly drunk etc

Great advice thanks..Laura
