"Neighbor" rates at hotels

FYI department : This might have been mentioned elsewhere but for info, if you are staying in a neighborhood where you have friends and/or family, most hotels will offer a %26quot;resident%26quot; rate -- I live off the beaten track in the 14th and often have family, friends visiting --all of the hotels I put people up at have always given ME a %26quot;neighborhood%26quot; rate... good to know -- but probably won%26#39;t work in really touristy areas...

This is surely a marketing ploy no different in essence to many others. It%26#39;s quite possible that a hotel which offers you a %26#39;neighbourhood rate%26#39; may also have any number of special offers for other groups. If you book a hotel through some large companies (such as Expedia) for example, you may well be offered three nights for the price of two at certain times, something the hotels don%26#39;t always advertise on their own website.

Until recently I worked in a hospital, and a nearby shop offered a 10% discount to overyone who showed their hospital ID, a generous and kind offer, showing support for those who worked in the National Health Service. It was only after a while that we realised the same shop often had coupons in the local paper offering 20% off. That explained the notice that said our discount wasn%26#39;t valid in conjunction with any other offers!
