Giverny Train Schedule

I need some information on purchasing tickets. 1) Is there an advantage to booking roundtrip? 2) Can I book the roundtrip train ticket specifying a departure time and open-ending the return time (same day)? 3) Would I be better to book just one-way and then purchase the return ticket when we are ready to leave Vernon?

1. No. Round trip is double single trip.

2. On a short-distance train like this, there will not be seat reservations, so tickets can be used on any train. Before getting on the train, validate the ticket by stamping it in the machine by the entry to the platform.

3. You might as well buy return tickets.

Giverney is not open until April 1.

The direct trains from Gare St Lazare coordinate with a bus at the Vernon station for the bus trip to Giverney. The same applies on the return.

When you get to Paris, buy your ticket to Giverney the day before at Gare St Lazare (or any other SNCF train station). My experience is that the customer service window at Gare St Lazare is crowded and slow-moving. It could take you an hour to purchase your ticket. The electronic ticket kiosks do not take American (non-chip) credit cards.

I%26#39;m not sure on this one, maybe someone else can help, but to get on the return bus from Giverney to the Vernon train station, you may need to show your return train ticket to Paris, so you might need to purchase a return train ticket.

As an %26#39;extention%26#39; to a visit to Monet%26#39;s Home %26amp; Gardens at Giverny....you can always travel onward along the same rail ligne (12:50 train), from VERNON to ROUEN-Rive Gauche (approx 45 mins..19,80€ r.t.) for an afternoon of touring Rouen %26#39;Lite%26#39;...before returning directly to Paris from ROUEN (passing through Vernon w/o train change) en route.

I%26#39;ve never experienced long lines at Gare St-Lazare. You don%26#39;t have to go to the main ticket office. There%26#39;s another ticket office outside opposite the station, which I%26#39;ve never observed to be busy, and there are kiosks all over as you enter but before you walk into the tracks area where I%26#39;ve also been able to walk right up.

Do you know the current price in $$ for the round trip, 2nd class ticket from Paris to Vernon? Is it reduced if you are over 60?
