Avallon trains to Paris

I plan to drop a rental car off in Avallon after touring around the Loire and Burgundy.Does anyone know how frequent the trains are mid week from Avallon back to Paris and whether I need to book seats in advance?

As with most all train questions, unless a date is given any answer is an approximation. Generally there are a good number of trains from Avallon to Paris (Bercy). Fares are around 30 euros but the en route times are from 3 to 4 hours.

It would be a great deal faster to drive to Paris.

I neglected to mention that the TER trains from Avallon do not have reserved seating and there is no need to book in advance.

If you select a travel option using a TGV segment (via MONTBARD for example) a reservation is required.

Thanks for your advice. I have decided we may as well drive back to Paris and drop the car off at Orly airport (where we will be picking it up from).
