U.S. License for Car Rental?

I am planning to travel to PARIS and rent a car for couple of days. Do they have any requirements other than U.S. Drive license?

No

I assume you want a car after visiting Paris. Having a car in Paris itself would be like having a car in New York City, a costly liability.

For rental information (min 3 day rental):

Thank you so much...

You might want to consider picking up the car at the airport,upon arrival, then spending the next couple of days exploring the countryside. You can then return the car at CDG, and spend the remainder of your trip in Paris. Doing this will allow you to explore at least a part of France without having to drive in Paris itself.

My husband just went to AAA and picked up an international driving permit for $30.00 - apparentently we found out that we needed it by reading Rick Steves Tour book.

It was easy - just go to the nearest center.

We have been renting/leasing and driving for a month or more in France, every year since %26#39;95,and have NEVER been required to have or show an International Driving Permit. While we are AAA members, I am sorry to say that I think that you have been %26quot;taken.%26quot;

I have to admit that I don%26#39;t have any of the Rick Steves Guides, but, the fact that he%26#39;s giving out totally incorrect information that is costing his readers big bucks, is, without a doubt, the reason that I choose to get my information elsewhere.

International license is required especially in Italy and Spain. Just a feature to have if you should %26quot;wander%26quot; into those countries from France.

Here is a link that tells you which countries require an IDP by law.

If you just drive in France you would be ok not to have one. If you do drive in one of the countries that require an IDP chances are you would not be asked for one but if you are and don%26#39;t have one you could or would be fined. If you had an accident they would probably ask for one. For peace of mind I always get one. It is not a rip off as someone mentioned no more than having insurance is a rip off in that you would only use it if needed. However, if you need it and don%26#39;t have it you would be out some money.

Again, if you are limiting your driving to France it is not required by law to have it. If you should get stopped for a traffic ticket the police would prefer getting information from the IDP rather than your U.S. license for translation purposes. I produced mine one time upon receiving a traffic ticket and the officer used the IDP rather than my State license to get the information to write the ticket since it was in his language. No reduction on the fine though. :)
