Travel to La Grande Motte from Montpellier Airport

Hello Peter,

I%26#39;m flying into Montpellier airport next week and usually get a taxi to La Grande Motte, however it seems to be about 40 euros a journey which is a bit pricey especially as I%26#39;ll be travelling on my own this trip. I have hired a car before but that%26#39;s about 50 euros a day and I%26#39;m trying to economise.

Are there any cheaper options which don%26#39;t involve going into Montpellier (which could take a while) please? You mention on your other post about getting the train to Lunel and then getting a taxi from there? I really like that town and would like to do that if it%26#39;s a viable alternative, how easy is that to do and how much would that cost roughly please?

Many thanks

Amanda

p.s. is there any hope of a bus link from Montpellier airport to La Grande Motte in the future do you think? Surely the locals need one as well as the tourists?

The 106 bus goes to from Montpellier to la Grande Motte once or twice every hour during the summer

Now according to the map and my recollection that bus goes almost past the airport. Highly annoying I agree, but I can%26#39;t think of an economical way other than to take the airport bus into Montpellier and the other bus back out again.

Lunel is further from La Grande Motte than is Montpellier Airport, so can%26#39;t see that saving money.

Hope that helps.

The 106 bus is a good idea but it does not stop near the airport. You would first take the airport shuttle into town, catch the tram (I believe it%26#39;s tram 1) to Port Marianne from where 106 departs.

If you decide to do this be careful as there are two different 106 buses (that%26#39;s right, two buses with the same number each going to a difference destination - only in France). One 106 goes to Carnon, Le Grau du Roi, and on to Aigues Mortes. The other (they depart Montpellier about the same time) goes to Palavas-les-Flots and La Grande Motte.

The bus option will cost about one third of the taxi but take 3 times longer. 40€ for a taxi to La Grande Motte should include tip and it might even be a bit less.
