Train luggage

Hello,

We will be traveling through Europe by train. We have read that you definatley want to keep your luggage with you in th over head storage and not leave it at the lugage storage at the end of the train. My question is does the overhead luggage area have room for a normal size suitcase?

THanks

What size do you mean by %26quot;normal%26quot;?

Bigger than an airline carry on but not a trunk. I would guess our largest piece we are considering taking is 26%26quot; x 18%26quot; x 10

Luggage storeage space varies between differen trains. Generally the overhead racks are not suitable for anything larger than a case that can be taken onto a plane as hand luggage. In some trains there is space between seats that can take rather larger cases. In addition there are usually racks at the end of each coach (not at the end of the train) and sometimes in the middle. Personally, I never worry particularly at using these. You can keep an eye on them at intermediate stops if you are concerned.

I consider 22%26quot; luggage as normal size and these are often too large to fit in the overhead space on some trains but are easily placed within the racks near the entrances or in the space between seat backs when available.

26%26quot; is a huge case, the largest size many companies make. Some consider cases of this size a liability. They will be harder to maneuver and can exceed airline baggage weight limitations resulting in even higher transportation costs.

If you will be on the move, you might consider downsizing a bit and leave the big cases at home.

Thanks everyone,

We have opted for the 22 inch suitcase. I tried to convince my wife of even smaller but that did not work LOL. With your advise I have an idea of what to expect.

THanks
