les prairies de la mer port grimaud

Am staying here for 1st time in september and have never stayed in france or taken a holiday abroad of this type before so have a few questions.

has anyone stayed here before and if so what is their opinion of the site.

we dont drive is it easy to get to places like geant hypermarket and the marineland.

are there any places of interest/history nearby as well as grimaud.

could anyone give us names of a few good value restaurants/cafes in grimaud and port grimaud

I haven%26#39;t stayed there but I have walked by it from another site at Port Grimaud. It is a lively holiday site right by the beach. This area is quite expensive, especially Port Grimaud itself. Grimaud village is further away, too far to walk and no public transport that I%26#39;m aware of. As you don%26#39;t drive, your best bet might be to scrounge lifts from other Brits on the site! You%26#39;ll definitely need to visit the hypermarket.

The beach here is very good and the sea will be warm in September. You can also walk to Port Grimaud itself and hire a boat and take a boat trip to St Tropez. The road along the coast is always very busy.

The local buses are on this web-site www.sodetrav.fr but I%26#39;m afraid it is all in French. There is a bus that goes up to Grimaud. I%26#39;m sure somebody at the site could tell you where the nearest bus stop is. You might think about hiring scooters if you don%26#39;t drive. Near the geant hypermarket is the Luna Park which is a huge funfair that opens at 9pm each day. You buy a pass that allows one ride on all the main attractions. Might be a fun option one evening.

prairies is a lovely site, this will be our 8th year staying on the site. we always stay in a lodge run by Club Cantabrica and the area is always immaculate. the amenities on the site are very clean and even the toilet blocks don%26#39;t look like toilet blocks they have a very egyptian theme.

there is alot to do on the site, however the site is directly opposite residential housing so all loud music fininshes on the site at 11, even though the entertainment carries on until the early hours!!!

eating out in Port Grimaud isn%26#39;t that expensive, my family an i find it cheaper to eat out every night than to buy alot of food in. there are some nice takeaways on the site, my personal favourite is picnic, their burgers are brill!! also in Port Grimaud there is a really nice family run restaurant called La Boheme which is run by a lovely english family who we have gotten to know well, also there is really nice restaurant called Monroes which is again run by an english family, the food in both of the restaurants is top notch and of excellent value.

the hypermarket isn%26#39;t too far away, we sometimes walk there to buy just a bit of food, there is a bus that runs there. Because we stay with Club Cantabrica they put a coach on for there customers so we can do a %26#39;big shop%26#39;.

there is a guy {or at least there was last year} called eamon who does a lot of excursions on the camp site, such as a trip around millionaires bay, a boat trip around st tropez where you can see all the houses owned by, yes you guessed it millionaires. if you get the chance, i am not sure if eamon goes there, but an excursion to the gorges du vernon is spectacular, it is called the grand canyon of france.

there is alot to do in port grimaud and in surrounding area, so i hope that this post has been informative and i would just like to say i hope you have a fab time, i know you will!

sarah, thanks very much for your reply , it is very helpful and informmative and has allayed any fears I had about the prices!! We are travelling and staying with Siesta Holidays as they do a pick up nearer to our home than Cantabrica/

|||

seista has some really nice lodges there, and we know some of the staff there and they are really nice. they will probably lay on a coach for you to go to the hypermarket so you don%26#39;t have to walk!!!

i know that seisata do alot of excursions so you will find that you and your family will have alot to do to keep you entertained during your stay.

sarah, thanks for your help so far, another question I am a little worried about what to wear when eating/going out in port grimaud at night-time. Me and hubby usually holiday in Turkey or Greece and have always dressed casually at night ie sun dresses (for me of course!), shorts, cropped trousers, t-shirts etc. I was wondering if I need to pack a couple of dressy items just in case.

|||

it depends on where you are eating, most of the places especially the pubs you can wear what you want, i always wear shorts and a vest, very casual. there are couple of dressier places in port grimaud, but are also a lot more expensive!!!! but i don%26#39;t think they will turn you away if you are dressed just casual, just as long as its not too casual!!

|||

just another thing before i forget, my mum mentioned that i should lt you know, just be careful ,if you take travellers cheques with you, you will probably find it will be hard to exchange them because the bank in Port Grimaud rarely opens, to be honest i don%26#39;t think we have ever seen it open!!!

|||

Thanks for that you%26#39;ve putmy mind at rest as far as clothes go. We usually take travellers cheques when we go abroad will have to rethink now, what do you do, do you take cash, are there no cash machines? I%26#39;d have thought the camp site would have facilities for changing cash.

|||

we normally take cash, there is cash machines on the site and in the town that you can use. i don%26#39;t think that the camp site do change money, we have never seen a bureau de change on the site, and the one in town rarely opens!!
